Hi.
I'm Greta Christina, and I've been a freelance writer since 1989. I write books, essays, columns, movie reviews, other reviews, features, interviews, fiction, irate letters, song parodies, and assorted commercial copy. Among other things, I'm the the author of Bending (part of the three-novella collection Three Kinds of Asking For It), and the editor of Paying For It: A Guide by Sex Workers for Their Clients.
The new book is out! My latest book, Bending, is an erotic novella about a woman who is sexually fixated on being bent over. More broadly, it's about obsession and what happens when you finally get enough of the thing you've been craving. It's being published by Simon & Schuster as part of a three-novella collection edited by Susie Bright called Three Kinds of Asking For It. Here's an excerpt if you want to find out more. You can buy it at Powells, at your local bookstore, or at Amazon if you absolutely must.
Paying For It: A Guide by Sex Workers for Their Clients is a book of advice for sex work customers, written by sex workers and former sex workers, about how to treat sex workers so they like you more and give you better service. If you ever spend time with sex workers or think you might someday, this book will help you have a much better time with them; if you don't, it's still a fun and interesting read. Here's an excerpt so you can see for yourself. You can order it from Powell's, at your local bookstore, or at Amazon if you must.
If you're going to just read one or two pieces of my writing, may I suggest either Are We Having Sex Now or What? or Comforting Thoughts About Death That Have Nothing to Do with God. Are We Having Sex Now or What? is probably my best-known short piece to date: it was originally published in 1992, and has since been reprinted several times and has been studied and cited by scholars, writers and universities throughout the country. Comforting Thoughts About Death That Have Nothing to Do with God is a much newer piece; it was published in the Skeptical Inquirer in 2005, and is already starting to give Are We Having Sex Now or What? a serious run for its money (it's generated more reader mail than any other piece of my writing to date). If you're pressed for time, go for Comforting Thoughts: it's shorter.
I'm always interested in finding more writing work; if you have any or know of any, please email me. You can read a bunch of my writing here, and you can look at my writer's resume for a pretty-darned-comprehensive list of everything I've published.
I'm not a complete workaholic: I also have an assortment of weird nerdy hobbies, including folk and historical dancing, writing song parodies, obsessing over Buffy the Vampire Slayer, writing angry letters to newspapers and politicians, and doing an astrological system based on what movie won the Best Picture Oscar for the year you were born. I have a girlfriend/partner/wife, Ingrid. I live in San Francisco. Find out more about the wonder and glory that is my personal life.
